Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Are Dynamic’s services covered by OHIP or through my insurance?

Dynamic is not a designated OHIP clinic however, in the city of Ottawa, most citizens are covered under an extended health care (EHC) plan through work. Most EHC plans cover the services provided by Dynamic Physiotherapy and Chiropractic. The percentages and stipulations of coverage are determined by your individual insurance company, so please call them directly to inquire about your plan.

Can Dynamic directly bill my insurance company?

Yes we can provide direct billing for certain insurance companies. For more information please see direct billing.

Do I need to see my family doctor first?

As both Physiotherapists and Chiropractors are Primary Health Care Practitioners we do not need a referral to assess or treat you. A referral however may be needed in order for you to be reimbursed by your insurance company (see FAQ- Are Dynamic’s services covered by insurance?). Typically, a medical doctor’s referral is needed for Physiotherapy, Registered Massage Therapy and orthotics to be covered, however, not necessarily for Chiropractic. We encourage you to verify this with your respective insurance company.

What is a custom fit Orthotic?

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes – they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motions that take place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole – and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet. What if I get injured at work?

At Dynamic we treat individuals who have been injured in the workplace. If you have been injured at work, inform your employer and contact the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) who will provide you with the appropriate paperwork to make a claim. You can contact WSIB by phone at 1-800-387-0750 or visit their website www.wsib.on.ca for more information. Our practitioners can assist you with the documentation.

My Doctor prescribed a brace for me. How do I get fitted and order one?

Depending on your injury there may be a brace that can help you. There are many options for braces that help manage pain and/or dysfunction, as well as prevent further injury. An assessment is needed to determine if bracing is appropriate for you. Depending on your insurance company the cost of some braces are covered with a doctor’s referral. Our practitioners will measure you in order to provide you with a properly fitted brace.

What is a chiropractic adjustment and is it safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of headache, neck and back pain. Chiropractic care is used by close to 2.7 million Ontarians each year.

An adjustment is an extensively researched, highly skilled and precise movement applied by hand to a joint of the body. Adjustments free up the joint to restore proper motion and to optimize function, and most patients experience immediate relief. No health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects and some patients may experience temporary pain, stiffness or slight swelling. However, adverse effects associated with spinal adjustment are most often minor and short-lived.

Our Chiropractors will determine if your problem will respond to Chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider.

Who should I book with? A physiotherapist or a chiropractor?

All of our chiropractors and physiotherapists have extensive training and education in the diagnosis and treatment of all areas of the body. Often people associate spinal treatment with chiropractic and muscle or limb treatment with physiotherapists. However, both professions undergo 6 to 8 years of extensive studies in human anatomy, neurology, orthopeadic assessments, injury and condition diagnosis, rehabilitation, and various treatment techniques. We encourage our patients to book with the discipline that they feel most comfortable with, however we can confidently say that most injuries can be assessed by either a chiropractor or a physiotherapist.
